Memento Mori.- Anonymous (17th century) A skull in frontal view, engraving, a well inked impression on laid paper with large armorial watermark, sheet 265 x 183 mm. (10 1/2 x 7 1/4 in), trimmed to image with thread-margin around borderline, inset at edges into paper mount, minor surface dirt, unframed, published by Joachim von Sandrart, [17th century]; together with a good group of eight further engravings, by Jan Sadeler and Aegidius Sadeler, the majority after Marten de Vos, engravings, various sizes, from 175 x 130 mm. (6 7/8 x 5 1/8 in) to 245 x 200 mm. (9 7/8 x 7 7/8 in), all unframed, [late 16th century and later] (9).
⁂ The British Museum hold another engraving of the same skull, which is printed in reverse to the present impression and was engraved by Matthias Greuter (1564-1638) [see New Hollstein (German) 300].
