Modern & Contemporary
Art and Editions
Our Modern & Contemporary Art and Editions department specialises in limited-edition prints, multiples and works on paper dating from the early twentieth century to the present day. Our Editions and Works on Paper 1500-2024 auctions take place three times a year (February, July and October) alongside Modern & Contemporary Editions sales every 2-3 months. The team also work with Dreweatts to present The British Sale, an annual celebration of printmaking and artworks by British artists.
Alexander Hayter leads the London-based team and comes to Forum Auctions with over 25 years of experience in the field. He is on hand daily to provide valuations and expert advice, and is assisted by Eleanor Garthwaite (Junior Specialist) and Will Kilbourn (Cataloguer).
Our sales present prints by Modern masters such as Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dalí, Henri Matisse, and Joan Miró. Noteworthy results have included Marc Chagall’s ‘Cirque’ (1967), which sold for £100,000. We also specialise in artworks by Pop, Contemporary and Urban artists including Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Bridget Riley, Harland Miller, to name just a few. Highlights have included the sale of David Hockney’s ‘Waiter, Alexandria’, which sold for £148,000 and Andy Warhol’s ‘Diamond Dust Shoes’, sold for £81,250. In the past year, the team brought to auction a re-discovered Henry Moore watercolour which sold for £25,200 in December 2023.
