Science-fiction and non-fiction writer who also foresaw the use of communication satellites in space. The film 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), was one of the most critically acclaimed films of its genre, directed by Stanley Kubrick and for which Clarke and Kubrick wrote the screenplay, was based on Clarke’s short story The Sentinel (1951).
