⁂ A fine association copy originally belonging to Sir Bruce Richmond and almost certainly given to him by Woolf. The author first met Richmond when she embarked on her serious career as a professional writer, he was the editor of the Times Literary Supplement. Woolf received encouragement by Richmond who remained a friend throughout her life. She wrote of her friend: "I learnt a lot of my craft writing for him: how to compress; how to enliven; and also was made to read with a pen and notebook seriously..."
