China.- Chinese measurement of time.- Bayer (Theophilus Siegfried) De horis Sinicis et Cyclo Horario Commentationes accedit...Parergon Sinicum de Calendariis Sinicis, first edition, 8 engraved plates, 2 vignettes, water-stained throughout, old wrappers, chipped and upper cover detached, 4to, St. Petersburg, Typis Academiae Scientiarum, 1735.

⁂ An important early "introduction to Chinese methods of indicating time, the cycles, etc. With parallel terms in other Eastern languages" (Lust). Bayer (1694-1738), was a pioneer in Sinology and became Professor of Oriental Antiquities at St. Petersburg. Rare at auction with RBH only citing two recent copies, in 1972 and 2009.
