Browne (Alexander) Ars Pictoria: or an Academy treating of Drawing, Painting, Limning, Etching..., 2 parts in 1, second edition, engraved portrait by A. de Iode after Huysmans, title in red and black, 30 engraved plates only (of 31, numbered 1-29 + final plate signed by G.R.), apparently lacking a final plate but with folding letterpress 'Catalogue of Plates' with engraving at head (shaved), portrait trimmed just shaving corners and laid down, a little soiled and browned, a few stains, rust spot/hole to Gg2, modern panelled calf, red morocco label, [Wing B5098], folio, for Arthur Tooker...& William Battersby, 1675.
⁂ Scarce work by one of the earliest and most important publishers of mezzotints. Browne was also a miniature painter, drawing master and auctioneer. ESTC records only 5 copies of this edition which includes the first appearance of 'An Appendix to the Art of Painting in Miniture or Limning'.
