[Felibien (André)] The Tent of Darius Explain'd: or the Queens of Persia at the feet of Alexander, translated by Col.Parsons, first edition, half-title, double-page engraved plate by Gribelin after le Brun mounted on stubs, engraved title-vignette, head- & tail-pieces and initials, text in French and English on facing leaves, plate lightly soiled with tear to fold repaired, contemporary panelled calf, gilt, rubbed, some scratches, patch in lower cover and corners repaired, rebacked with spine ruled in gilt and red morocco label, folio, by William Redmayne for the Author, 1703.
⁂ Analysis of the painting by Charles le Brun painted in 1660-61 for Louis XIV at Fontainebleau. It was later moved to the Tuilieries in 1668 and again in 1682 to Versailles, where it was cut down to hang opposite Veronese's Les Pèlerins d'Emmaüs.
