Description

Hogarth (William) The Analysis of Beauty. Written with a view of fixing the fluctuating Ideas of Taste, first edition, title with woodcut vignette, list of prints published by Hogarth and leaf of 'Figures referr'd to in the Book' at end, 2 large folding engraved plates, contemporary ink signature of Thos. Allsopp at head of title, lightly browned, plates a little soiled & stained and with one or two short tears at edges (mostly marginal and repaired, folds reinforced), short marginal tear to I1 & 2, contemporary mottled calf, rubbed, rebacked preserving old gilt spine, new red morocco label, corners repaired, 4to, J.Reeves for the Author, 1753.
