Description

Villa Borghese.- Manilli (Iacomo) Villa Borghese fuori di Porta Pinciana, first edition, etched frontispiece and folding plate of the palace, title with typographical ornament, woodcut initials, 4pp. privilege/imprimatur misbound at end of preliminaries, also A7 & 8 (pp.13-16) following preliminaries, but complete, small paper flaw/tear to outer margin of A5, some very light browning but still a good copy, later half calf, spine gilt, a little rubbed, 8vo, Rome, Lodovico Grignani, 1650.

⁂ Scarce first monograph of a Roman villa, by its curator/custodian. COPAC lists only 6 copies (BL, British School at Rome, Cambridge, Oxford, Courtauld, V & A).
