Immunology.- Metchnikoff (Elie) Lecons sur la Pathologie Comparee de l'Inflammation, first edition in French, presentation copy to Paul Ehrlich [with whom he later shared the Nobel Prize], half-title, 3 chromolithograph plates at end, illustrations, library cloth-backed boards with library tape marks to spine and covers, 8vo, Paris, G. Masson, 1892.
⁂ A fine association copy. Metchnikoff and Ehrlich shared the 1908 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering the major types and functions of phagocytes and the types of blood leukocytes respectively. Their work led to discovering how to generate and use antibodies to protect against bacterial toxins. We have been unable to trace any other works inscribed by either to the other. The inscription here reads: "Herrn Professor, Dr Ehrlich, hochachtungsvoll in freundlicher Erinnerung des Verfassers."
