Junior Book Cataloguer

Location: Battersea, London
Contract Type: Full-time
Salary: Dependent on experience

Role Overview

This role would suit someone with a background in literature who is looking to build a career in the world of rare books and auctions. You will work closely with our team of specialists to assist in the research, cataloguing, and preparation of items for sale. This role involves hands-on interaction with rare and antiquarian books, as well as working to tight deadlines in a fast-paced auction environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in cataloguing books, manuscripts, and related works on paper for auctions 
    • Interact with clients in person and by phone/email, particularly in relation to appraisals and valuations
  • Research pricing, bibliographic and provenance information using online databases and reference works
  • Assist with condition reporting and photography preparation
  • Maintain accurate internal records and lot information
  • Support the saleroom team with pre-sale setup and auction-day duties as required
  • Contribute to social media or marketing content related to catalogued material

Skills & Experience Required

  • A degree in a relevant subject such as English Literature, History, Art History
  • Excellent written English and attention to detail
  • Organised, methodical, and able to manage competing deadlines
  • A genuine interest in books, book history, and/or the auction trade
  • Previous experience in cataloguing, bookselling, or a related field is advantageous but not essential

Front of House Administrator

Location: Battersea, London
Contract Type: Full-time
Salary: Dependent on experience

Role Overview
As our Front of House Administrator, you will be the first point of contact for all visitors, clients, and callers to our London office. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our reception runs smoothly, while providing day-to-day administrative support across departments. This is a varied role, ideal for someone with a keen interest in the world of books, prints and auctions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist clients, guests, and couriers in a professional and friendly manner
  • Manage all incoming calls, emails, and general enquiries
  • Oversee the appearance and upkeep of the reception and viewing areas
  • Provide administrative support to the specialist and operations teams
  • Assist with auction-day registration and activities
  • Coordinate shipping quotes for client purchases

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in a front-of-house or administrative role preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work calmly under pressure
  • Competent in Microsoft Office and general office systems
