What is a private treaty sale?

We understand there may be circumstances that make selling at auction impractical or undesirable for any number of reasons. The procedure by which we do so requires the same initial valuation and appraisal assessment as for an auction sale, though the time-frames for arranging private treaty sales and our commissions for facilitating these are flexible.

The private treaty sale format can be particularly helpful when wishing to sell a collection intact rather than dispersing the individual items within the collection by auction.  It is also the case that institutions are often more willing to buy individual items or collections privately as doing so can better take into account their funding cycles and other considerations that may not be met by purchasing at auction.
